Insulators

Today, we discovered how blubber insulates animals such as seals, whales, and polar bears from cold water temperatures. In our experiment, we placed our hands in a bag of lard (blubber) and in a plain ziplock bag with no insulation. Students then placed both hands in a bowl of ice water. Ask your child the difference they felt between each bag. Could they feel the cold water through the blubber bag?
